IPL 2020 auction was successfully held in Kolkata in the presence of all the eight franchises. A total of 338 players went under the hammer but some of the names hogged the spotlight as they were handed with some whopping fee by the franchises. There were many marquee cricketers, who were the part of IPL 2020 auction and the fans were expecting that the team owners will go big in order to reinforce and build their side. However, all eight franchises lived up to the expectations of the fans as they went all-in to bag the services of their preferred players. Also, the day went into the corners of overseas players, who hit the spotlight in the auction held in December.
Pat Cummins gets a record-breaking fee from Kolkata Knight Riders
The star for the day of IPL 2020 auction was Pat Cummins, the seaming all-rounder from Australia was bought by Kolkata Knight Riders at a record fee of 15.50 Crore. He also became the second-costliest player after Yuvraj Singh in the history of IPL auction. Kings XI Punjab also hogged the spotlight when they signed their former player Glenn Maxwell at a whopping fee of 10.75 Crore. It will also mark the return of the Aussie all-rounder back into the franchise just after one season.
Chris Morris, the Proteas all-rounder was also not very far away from Maxwell, as RCB included him in their ranks at a price of 10 Crore. KXIP was rolling out some serious amount and looked quite aggressive in their approach to pick their first-choice players. After Aussie all-rounder, they successfully managed to rope in Sheldon Cottrell, the West Indies fast bowler after paying 8.50 Crore.
Mumbai Indians used a huge amount of Rs 8 Crore for Nathan Coulter Nile in a shocking move, who played his last IPL game in 2017. Other names that were among the top 10 expensive players in IPL a2020 auction were Shimron Hetmyer (Delhi Capitals- 7.75 Cr), Piyush Chawla (CSK- 6.75 Cr), Sam Curran (CSK- 5.50 Cr), Eoin Morgan (KKR- 5.25 Cr) and Marcus Stoinis ( Delhi Capitals – 4.80Cr).
