Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) started shining up in the tournament after their two forgettable outings in IPL 2020. They bagged their first match against Rajasthan Royals by 15 runs at Abu Dhabi on September 29.

However, questions are still hovering on their middle order, and their mentor VVS Laxman stepped up to address them at a media interaction held by the franchise on October 1. The mentor believes that it is just a chance where a lot of youngsters are still to show up with their bat.

The players in the middle order have not been getting many opportunities, and they will perform once they get their chance. Laxman believes that team has confidence in the talent of their youngsters. The fact has to be accepted as players like Abhishek Sharma and Abdul Samad have faced fewer deliveries to be judged for their performances.

“I know there’s too much talk about the middle order. But to be fair, none of the middle-order batsmen got an opportunity in the last two games [against the Capitals and the Kolkata Knight Riders]. That’s a talking point as far as the Sunrisers’ franchise is concerned, but deep down, we all have a lot of confidence in the youngsters we have taken,” said Laxman as quoted by ESPNcricinfo.

Sharma has faced only eight balls in three innings, while Samad, who made his debut in the last match, just got a chance to face seven balls. Also, their lower-order batsman, Priyam Garg, has shown up with bat only once in their three outings. Laxman wants the youngsters to “settle down” and not rush things.

It’s about allowing the youngsters to settle down: VVS Laxman

“Every franchise will have youngsters in their batting line up; it is just about allowing the youngsters to settle down in the side. As I said, at the moment, we’ve got three youngsters who are playing in the middle order: Priyam Garg, Abhishek Sharma, and Abdul Samad – and they are quality players,” Laxman further said.

Even the upper order hasn’t done anything significant in the tournament, but the team believes that they will find their balance soon. Their side has also been bolstered by the inclusion of star Kiwi batsman– Kane Williamson.
