Yashasvi Jaiswal had a moment of rejoice on Tuesday, September 22 after he made his debut in the Indian Premier League (IPL). Playing for the Rajasthan Royals (RR), he turned up against Chennai Super Kings (CSK) at the Sharjah Cricket Stadium.

To add to his delight, he also got to rub shoulders with MS Dhoni, who retired from international cricket back on August 15. Before the start of the match, Jaiswal also went on to meet Dhoni after the toss.

The 18-year-old walked up to the 39-year-old and greeted him with folded hands. The netizens on the social media platforms have lauded Jaiswal for the heartfelt gesture towards the former Indian cricketer. The live camera captured the moment when Jaiswal greeted the Jharkhand-born.

Yashasvi Jaiswal failing to contribute

Jaiswal came out to open the batting alongside Steve Smith, the Royals’ skipper. He played a couple of dot-balls after which he got off the mark with the steer down to the third man region of Sam Curran’s bowling. In the first ball of the third over, the left-handed batsman smashed fast bowler Deepak Chahar for a boundary with a pull through the mid-wicket region.

However, he ran out of luck in the very next delivery. Chahar went for another short delivery and it got big on Jaiswal, who didn’t get hold of the pull this time around. He managed to get a top-edge and Chahar along with Dhoni tried to go for the catch. However, in the end, Dhoni backed out and Chahar took a steady caught and bowled to send Jaiswal back to the pavilion.

Nevertheless, the Royals may still give him a chance in the next game, bearing in mind the talent he possesses. In the 2019 Vijay Hazare Trophy, Jaiswal smashed a double century, showing his class and calibre. He was also one of India’s star performers in the U19 World Cup in South Africa.

As far as Dhoni is concerned, his team tasted it’s first defeat of IPL 2020, losing to the Royals by 16 runs. He came to bat at number seven during the Super Kings’ run-chase and scored 29 off 17 balls with three sixes of Tom Curran.
