On Sunday, September 27, Rajasthan Royals (RR) pulled off the greatest run-chase in the history of the Indian Premier League (IPL). The very next day on Monday, September 28, Mumbai Indians (MI) went for the jugular against the Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB). However, Rohit Sharma and Co failed to get over the line despite valiant efforts from Ishan Kishan and Kieron Pollard.
In pursuit of chasing 202, the Mumbai-based franchise lost wickets upfront. At one point in time, they were looking down the barrel at 78 for four in 11.2 overs. However, Kishan and Pollard and had other ideas and they didn’t give up the ghost. The duo put on a staggering 119 runs for the fifth wicket off a mere 51 balls and took the game into the Super Over.
Ishan Kishan plays a blinder
Pollard was the more attacking off the two, hammering 60 off 24 balls with three fours and five sixes. Kishan, on the other hand, found the boundary as well. The southpaw scored 99 runs off 58 balls, laced with two fours and as many as nine sixes. He eventually got out to left-arm fast bowler Isuru Udana when MI needed five runs to win off the last two deliveries.
But to the surprise of many, he didn’t come out to bat in the one-over eliminator. It was Pollard and Hardik Pandya and the pair could only muster seven runs off Navdeep Saini. In the meantime, Yuvraj Singh, the former Indian cricketer, reckoned that Kishan should have batted in the Super Over as he was in ominous form with the bat in hand.
He took to Twitter and wrote, “I think @KieronPollard55 and @ishankishan51 should have come to bat in the super over ! They were set bodies were warm ! I think @rcb will just get out of jail here ? What say #IPL2020 cause @rcb has mr 360 @ABdeVilliers17.”

Despite scoring only seven, MI didn’t give up. Jasprit Bumrah bowled the Super Over for them and got the match down to the last ball. Barring the four AB de Villiers hit him over the fine-leg region, the fast bowler was on the money. But his efforts weren’t enough for MI.
