Can there be a need for a side that has won 5 IPL titles, and has won 4 titles in the last 6 years? The Mumbai Indians have been the most dominant side in the tournament, and have emerged as the team to beat in the IPL. But then, ahead of the 2021 IPL auction, even they would like to have some boxes ticked.

One look at the players that Mumbai have released ahead of the auction is enough for us to understand why they need someone like Kyle Jamieson in their arsenal. Ahead of the 2021 auction, the Mumbai side has released renowned pacers like James Pattinson, Mitchell McCleneghan, Nathan Coulter Nile, and Lasith Malinga (retired). And in their current set up, they only have two proper frontline pacers in Jasprit Bumrah and Trent Boult.

While the likes of Kieron Pollard and Hardik Pandya can roll their arms over, they are not specialist bowlers who can get the job done. And, as far as Dhawal Kulkarni is concerned, he featured in just a single match for the Mumbai side last season and is unlikely to get a look in on a regular basis.

And that is why Jamieson can be a wonderful addition to the Mumbai bowling arsenal. Jamieson can open the bowling with Trent Boult, and Bumrah can be reserved for the death overs. Both Boult and Jamieson can get the ball to move sharply upfront and can pose a lot of uncomfortable questions to the batsmen.

And, if Jamieson and Boult open the bowling, it would free up Bumrah to have a go at the death. Needless to say, Bumrah has the best yorker in world cricket today (Malinga has retired), and the Indian pacer can be brutal in the death overs. Jamieson can be an extremely useful pick for the Mumbai side.
