The situation in India is grim as the second wave of the ongoing coronavirus pandemic has caused a medical emergency in the country. The Covid-19 scare has managed to plague the 14th edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL) as it seems that the strict bio bubble set up by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has been breached.

Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) have been dealt with a massive blow as their two players including Varun Chakravarthy and Sandeep Warrier tested positive for Covid-19. It was followed by another shocking development as three non-playing members from Chennai Super Kings (CSK) contingent returned a positive test on Monday.

The relief here is that no CSK cricketer has tested positive as the three members who have contracted the virus are CSK’s Chief Executive Officer Kasi Viswanathan, bowling coach Lakshmipathy Balaji and a bus cleaner. Also, the entire Yellow Army squad underwent another round of Covid-19 tests but have tested negative.

In another disturbing news, it is understood that as many as five groundsmen of the Delhi and Districts Cricket Association (DDCA) have tested positive for the coronavirus. Four IPL teams are residing in Delhi including CSK, Mumbai Indians (MI), Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH), and Rajasthan Royals (RR) as the Arun Jaitely Stadium in Delhi is scheduled to host IPL league matches till May 8.

SRH fans support the cancelation of IPL

The increase in the number of coronavirus cases among the players and the support staff has put the future of the T20 Championship in jeopardy. While BCCI has rescheduled the Monday affair at the Narendra Modi Cricket Stadium in Ahmedabad between Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) and Kolkata Knight Riders, they are yet to take a call on the matches scheduled in Delhi.

Amidst all the chaos, ‘Cancel IPL’ started trending on Twitter as many notable personalities and fans believe that it isn’t right to conduct the tournament in such a grim situation. Many people urged BCCI to postpone the league and not put the health of the players and other members in danger.

Meanwhile, a few fans gave a hilarious twist to the whole #CancelIPL trend as a lot of funny memes flooded the social media. The cricket enthusiast seemed to be divided on the issue as while SRH fans supported the cancelation of the T20 Championship, RCB and DC fans weren’t happy with the trend.

SRH is languishing at the last position on the points table with just one victory from seven games while DC and RCB are there in the Top 4 and are deemed as the favorites to win the cup this year.
