Ahead of their match against Kolkata Knight Riders on Sunday, Royal Challengers Bangalore got a huge boost as Australian all-rounder Daniel Sams joined their camp in Chennai on Saturday. Sams returned after two negative RT-PCR tests for COVID-19. The Aussie tested positive for COVID-19 on April 7 and was immediately put into isolation at a medical facility.

The all-rounder from New South Wales was traded to RCB from Delhi Capitals ahead of this season of the IPL. He arrived from Australia on April 3 and his tests then turned out negative. But on April 7, when he was tested again, it came out to be positive. RCB opener Devdutt Padikkal was also tested positive with COVID-19 ahead of the season but eventually recovered and joined the team.

In the statement released by RCB, it was mentioned that Daniel Sams joined the bubble of RCB players on Saturday. “Daniel Sams is out of quarantine and has joined the RCB bio-bubble today with two consecutive negative reports for COVID-19,” RCB said in a statement on “RCB medical team was in constant touch with Sams and has declared him fit to join the team after adhering to all the BCCI protocols.”

Daniel Sams’ addition makes Daniel Christian’s place in RCB XI doubtful

Earlier Padikkal had to miss the first match of the season against Mumbai Indians. Sams missed out two matches, and now could be brought into the team in place of Daniel Christian, who has been their pick as an all-rounder so far. Sams joins the team after attending 10 days of mandatory quarantine.

According to the BCCI’s Health and Safety Protocols for IPL 2021, any participant testing positive for COVID-19 will have to be isolated for a minimum of 10 days. Due to this, Sams missed the first two matches for RCB. Christian, on the other hand, has not been up to his game so far. He has scored a lot of runs and has been used by Kohli for only three overs in two matches.

RCB has won both their matches though, which might make Kohli continue with the same pool of players. Bringing in Sams would also allow RCB to think about adding a proper Indian batsman in their line-up.
