Kolkata Knight Riders, on Monday, qualified to the Qualifier 2 where they will meet the Delhi Capitals on Wednesday, October 13. Eoin Morgan and Co. defeated the Royal Challengers Bangalore by four wickets at the Sharjah Cricket Stadium. As far as RCB are concerned, they have been eliminated from the tournament. Virat Kohli also captained the Challengers for the last time.

KKR make a comeback after RCB’s flying start

After, surprisingly, electing to bat first, the Challengers got off to a flying start, scoring 53 runs in the powerplay on a difficult track for the batters. Devdutt Padikkal and Virat Kohli put on 49 for the first wicket before Lockie Ferguson castled the latter. Kohli looked good for his 33-ball 39 before Sunil Narine castled him. KS Bharat, after his heroics against the Delhi Capitals, flattered to deceive.

Glenn Maxwell had a torrid time with the bat as he managed only 15 runs. AB de Villiers’ torrid time with the bat in the UAE leg continued as he got out to Narine. The lower order couldn’t contribute much as RCB could only muster 138 for the loss of seven wickets. Narine was the standout bowler for the Knight Riders as he picked up four wickets. Ferguson also managed to take two wickets.

Knights get home in thriller

The Knights started on a positive note as Shubman Gill and Venkatesh Iyer stitched together a 41-run stand off 32 balls. Harshal Patel gave RCB their maiden breakthrough. The pacer got rid of Gill, who made an 18-ball 29 with four fours. In the very next over, Yuzvendra Chahal trapped Rahul Tripathi in front after making optimum use of the powerplay. Iyer perished after getting 26 runs off 30 balls.

Nitish Rana played well for his 23, but a rash shot saw him get out to Chahal. Meanwhile, the Knight’s tactic to promote Narine to five paid dividends. He came out firing on all cylinders and got the required rate under six. He scored a 15-ball 26 with three sixes before Mohammed Siraj got him out. In the end, Shakib Al Hasan held his nerve to take the Knights home with two balls to spare.
