Royal Challengers Bangalore made a stunning start to their IPL 2021 campaign by winning a match against Mumbai Indians. They will next lock horns with David Warner-led Sunrisers Hyderabad on April 14 and ahead of their next clash, former Indian all-rounder Irfan Pathan has a piece of advice for them. Pathan suggests RCB to bring up Washington Sundar and Glenn Maxwell ahead of AB de Villiers in their batting order.

Pathan believes that De Villiers fits best in the role of a finisher and that is why he should come only after Sundar and Maxwell. Coming after them will also allow Mr 360 to play his natural fearless brand of cricket. The former Indian reckoned that Bangalore has always been short of a fine Indian batsman in their top order and Sundar can ace that role pretty well.

Irfan Pathan suggests RCB some changes

“AB de Villiers is such a player who can play in the top order, the middle order, and also as a brilliant and consistent finisher. So for that reason, RCB should play Maxwell higher up the batting order and hope that he plays fearlessly like in the first game,” said Irfan Pathan.

“I would like to add another point that Washington Sundar should play in the top order consistently. Even after Devdutt Padikkal returns, play him at No. 3. We have been seeing RCB for so long and they always seem an Indian batsman short. So if Washington Sundar even scores 20-25 runs consistently then the rest of the batting order is very dangerous and they’ll get some firepower in the middle order,” said Pathan as quoted by ESPNcrininfo.

Pathan also made a point that if Maxwell comes into play during middle order, it forces the opponents to change their strategies. The opposite side may want to introduce their best bowlers a little earlier than usual in the game and the Australian is capable enough to put them under much pressure. Therefore, Maxwell batting at no 4 is too crucial for Bangalore based franchise. It will be a thing to see how RCB take up their season further in IPL 2021.
