Kieron Pollard hasn’t quite had the best of campaigns for the Mumbai Indians (MI) in the 2021 edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL). He has played a couple of cameos but is yet to come into his own. However, on Thursday, April 29, the veteran from Trinidad gave a glimpse of the damage he can do in the match against the Rajasthan Royals (RR) at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in New Delhi.

He stayed unbeaten on 16 runs off eight balls as MI chased the target of 172 down with nine balls to spare. In his brief stay in the middle, the right-hander smashed two fours and one six. In the meantime, Pollard was involved in a hilarious moment. It happened in the third ball of the 18th over.

Kieron Pollard churns out a funny reaction

Fast bowler Chris Morris bowled a well-directed short delivery and Pollard tried to duck under it. But the ball struck his helmet and trickled off to the boundary for a four. When the leather was running away, Pollard, hilariously, waved at the ball.

Meanwhile, Sanju Samson, the Royals’ skipper, reckoned that the Royals failed to put up enough runs on the board and the bowlers didn’t have enough runs to work with.

“Surely, a few runs short, maybe around 20-25 runs short. We were going on nicely (with the bat), but didn’t finish well. The bowlers have been doing their job well, but as batsmen, we need to get them a good score to defend,” Samson said.

“It was a good wicket, the ball was coming on nicely and they (MI) batted really well, as a team, we will need to score more runs as a batting group. Trust yourself, play positive and fearless cricket – that’s all one should do,” he added.

Quinton de Kock, the Player of the Match for his unbeaten 50-ball 70, reckoned that track in New Delhi was a better one than the one at the Chepauk.

“To be totally honest, this is a much better wicket in general than Chennai (bright smile). But no this did skid on a little bit better, had to play the situation. That is all I had to do. The coach and Rohit did ask us to come out and be positive today,” he stated.
