After a torrid start to their campaign in the 14th edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL), the wooden-spooners of IPL 2020 Rajasthan Royals finally return to the winning ways. Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) batting line-up again suffers an annihilation as they gift an easy victory to Rajasthan Royals by six wickets.

The highly-anticipated clash at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai commenced with Royals skipper Sanju Samson winning the toss and inviting the opposition team to put a total on the board first. The Knight Riders produced a baffling performance with the willow as again the top-order failed to lay a foundation for the coming players to play their natural game.

In the powerplay, KKR lost the wicket of Shubman Gill owing to a run-out by Jos Buttler. The other opening batter Nitish Rana looked in fine touch after a series of poor performances but he lacked intent of scoring runs at a good strike rate. Rana’s dismissal in the ninth over was followed by wickets of Sunil Narine and Eoin Morgan.

It was only Rahul Tripathi and Dinesh Karthik’s cameo of 36 off 26 and 25 off 24 that helped the Knight Riders in reaching even a total of 133 in the 20 overs. However, one shouldn’t take away the credit from the Royals bowlers as they showed their resilience and valiance in stopping KKR to a below-par target. For the Men in Pink, Chris Morris was the pick of the bowler as he went all guns blazing against the opposition batters to scalp as many as four wickets.

Sanju Samson takes RR home

Chasing 134, Rajasthan Royals’ experimented with a new opening pair as Jos Buttler and Yashasvi Jaiswal walked out in the middle to open the innings. However, RR didn’t have any better start to their campaign as Buttler marched back to the pavilion after scoring just five runs.

The same was followed by Jaiswal and skipper Sanju Samson trying to stitch a winning partnership but Jaiswal also lost his wicket in the fifth over. All this while, Samson held his fort at one end and played a captain’s knock by adding 42* runs to the scoreboard off 41 balls. He was aptly supported by David Miller, who came to bat at number six, as he smashed 22* off 18. Thus, Rajasthan comfortably won the game by six wickets.
