Two teams that have got things right in the second half of the IPL will clash with each other in the 41st Match of the tournament. Delhi Capitals and Kolkata Knight Riders will face each other, in what promises to be a cracker of a contest.

The Delhi Capitals have simply continued from where they left off in the first leg of the tournament. Their batting lineup is clicking, their bowlers have been superb with the ball, and at the moment, it seems as if the Rishabh Pant-led side can do no wrong. And, the return of Shreyas Iyer has further bolstered the Delhi side.

Iyer has proven in the first two matches of IPL Phase 2 that he is an integral part of the Delhi Capitals’ (DC) setup. While he scored a calm 47* off 41 deliveries to help his side thrash the Sunrisers Hyderabad outfit by 8 wickets, Iyer followed that up with another match-winning knock, scoring 43 against the Rajasthan Royals to propel his side to a comfortable 33-run victory.

Anrich Nortje has sent in missiles at breakneck speeds, making life uncomfortable for the batsmen with the ball with his raw pace. In 2 matches in the UAE leg, the right arm tearaway pacer has scalped 4 wickets and has proven to be an asset for the Delhi outfit. Also, in the 8 overs that he has bowled in IPL Phase 2, Nortje has leaked just 30 runs as well.

Skipper Rishabh Pant has contributed vital runs in both matches of the UAE leg, while Dhawan also seems to be in decent touch. So, it would indeed be nice to be in the Delhi camp at the moment.

The Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) have been infused with a fresh lease of life in IPL Phase 2 in the form of Venkatesh Iyer. The 26-year-old left-hander has played just 3 IPL matches so far, but he has already proven to be an asset for the Kolkata side with his No-Holds-Barred approach with the bat.

Iyer has scored 112 runs in 3 matches in the UAE leg, but what has terrorized the opposition is the fact that he has scored his runs at an imposing strike rate of 155.55. And, Iyer’s positive approach has rubbed on the KKR side as well, as they have won 2 out of the 3 matches that they have played in the Second Phase of the IPL.

Apart from Iyer, Rahul Tripathi has also decimated bowling attacks in the UAE leg of the IPL and has scored 119 runs in the 2 innings he has played in Phase 2. Varun Chakravarthy has spun a web around the opposition, and has scalped 4 wickets in 3 matches, and has also not leaked too many runs as well.

In their previous encounter against the Chennai Super Kings (CSK), Eoin Morgan and his men played out a roller coaster of a contest but went down to the MS Dhoni-led side by 2 wickets and the result was decided off the very last ball of the match.

And, in spite of the loss to the Chennai Super Kings, there is nothing much to worry about for the KKR side. So, another blockbuster match awaits us. Will the Delhi Capitals suffer their first loss of IPL Phase 2, or will Rishabh Pant and his men make it a hat trick of wins in the UAE leg?

Pitch and Conditions

In spite of the shorter boundaries, run-scoring is not easy in Sharjah. As was evident from the match between the Punjab Kings (PBKS) and Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH), the ball has stopped on the batsman, and the surface is on the slower side. Batsmen need to get their eye in before taking advantage of the shorter boundaries.

Playing Combinations for KKR vs DC

Kolkata Knight Riders

Andre Russell suffered an injury to his hamstring in KKR’s previous match against the Chennai side and is doubtful for this encounter against Delhi. And, if he does not take the field, then Bangladesh all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan will replace him in the side. The rest of the lineup will remain the same.

Predicted XI: Shubman Gill, Venkatesh Iyer, Rahul Tripathi, Shakib Al Hasan/Andre Russell, Nitish Rana, Eoin Morgan (C), Dinesh Karthik (WK), Sunil Narine, Lockie Ferguson, Prasidh Krishna, Varun Chakravarthy

Delhi Capitals

There is absolutely no need for the Delhi Capitals to tinker with their playing combination for the match against KKR. They will go in with the same side from their previous match.

Predicted XI: Prithvi Shaw, Shikhar Dhawan, Shreyas Iyer, Rishabh Pant (C and WK), Lalit Yadav, Shimron Hetmyer, Axar Patel, R Ashwin, Kagiso Rabada, Anrich Nortje, Avesh Khan
