Stakes will be incredibly high when Punjab Kings and Mumbai Indians will lock horns in the 42nd game of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2021. The encounter takes place at the Sheikh Zayed Stadium in Abu Dhabi. Both teams have blown hot and cold in the competition so far and have won four of their 10 games so far. This means both teams need to win all their remaining four matches to secure a playoff berth.

One more loss for either team will mean they’ll have to depend upon other match results. Hence, PBKS and MI have all the reasons to unleash their A-game in the upcoming fixture. The KL Rahul-led side has developed a liking towards unpredictable results. While they suffered a shocking two-run defeat in their first fixture of the UAE leg, they defended 125 against SRH in the following fixture.

On the other hand, MI are coming off three successive defeats. While the five-time champions have many areas to work upon, their middle-order woes have unarguably been the biggest reason behind their downfall. Hence, it would be interesting to see what strategy they’ll opt against Punjab Kings.

Meanwhile, let’s look at important stats and numbers ahead of the 41st game of the Indian Premier League 2021:

Head to Head record: MI are just ahead of PBKS in terms of head-to-head record in IPL. In 27 games, the five-time champions have won 14 games. The other 13 fixtures went in the Punjab-based side’s favour.

1 – The only double super over in IPL history has been played between Punjab Kings and Mumbai Indians last year. The Punjab-based franchise won that contest.

2 – Rohit Sharma is two hits away from reaching 400 sixes in T20 cricket. He’ll become the first Indian and seventh overall player to get the landmark.

2 – Quinton de Kock is just 2 runs away from the 7000-run mark in T20 cricket. He’ll become the fourth South African after AB de Villiers, Colin Ingram and David Miller to achieve the milestone.

1 – Krunal Pandya needs one more wicket to reach 50 wickets for Mumbai Indians in the IPL. He will become the second Mumbai Indians player to score 1000+ runs and take 50+ wickets for Mumbai Indians, after Kieron Pollard.

5 – Hardik Pandya is five hits away from completing 100 sixes in the IPL.

2KL Rahul needs to clear the fence two times to complete 100 sixes for Punjab Kings. He would become the first batter to do so for PBKS.

8 – Chris Gayle can also reach the 100-sixes mark for PBKS. He’s eight hits away. If the southpaw achieves this feat, he would become the first player to smash 100 sixes for two IPL teams. He smashed 239 sixes while playing for RCB.

3 – Mayank Agarwal is three big hits away from completing 50 sixes for Punjab.

36 – Gayle needs 36 runs to become the seventh player to complete 5,000 IPL runs.
