Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) looked good to register their second victory of the 2021 Indian Premier League (IPL). At one point in time, the Men in Gold and Purple, well and truly, had the upper hand against Mumbai Indians (MI) on Tuesday at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai.

After being put in to bat first, MI made a decent start but were bowled out for 152 in their allotted 20 overs. Andre Russell picked up a five-wicket haul in only two overs to break the back of Mumbai’s batting unit.

In their run chase, the Knights looked settled when Shubman Gill and Nitish Rana got together a 72-runs stand. But from there on, KKR’s innings capitulated big time. It also happened to be the Knights’ 12th defeat against Rohit Sharma and Co in their last 13 meetings in the T20 league.

Here are the MI Player Ratings for the KKR vs MI match:

Rohit Sharma- 8/10

Rohit Sharma looked in ominous form with the bat in hand. He scored a 32-ball 43 with three fours and one six before Pat Cummins castled him. The veteran also was very impressive in his leadership skills.

Quinton de Kock- 1/10

Quinton de Kock, after missing the first game, didn’t quite make an impact against KKR. He scored two runs after which he tried to take on Varun Chakravarthy only to hole out to Rahul Tripathi.

Suryakumar Yadav- 9/10

Suryakumar Yadav played brilliantly with the bat. He stitched together a 76-run stand for the second wicket with Rohit. The right-hander managed 56 runs off 36 balls with seven fours and a couple of sixes.

Ishan Kishan- 1/10

Ishan Kishan didn’t have the best of days. The left-hander tried to take on a short delivery from Pat Cummins. But he couldn’t get proper timing, and Prasidh Krishna took a sharp catch at fine leg.

Hardik Pandya- 3.5/10

Hardik Pandya started his knock with a couple of fours and looked ominous. But the youngster became Krishna’s victim after he managed 15 runs off 17 balls. He didn’t get a chance to roll his arms over.

Kieron Pollard- 2/10

Kieron Pollard had an off day as well. The Trinidadian began with a four, but it was Andre Russell, who accounted for his wicket. Pollard also bowled a solitary over and gave away 12 runs in it.

Krunal Pandya- 9/10

Krunal Pandya scored 15 runs off nine balls in the death overs. But he restricted the Knights’ batters as he conceded only 13 runs from his four overs and also picked up the crucial wicket of Shakib Al Hasan.

Marco Jansen- 6/10

Marco Jansen didn’t have the greatest of days in the office. He only bowled two overs and gave away 17 runs without a wicket. Shubman Gill was severe on him, hitting the pacer for quite a few fours.

Rahul Chahar- 9.5/10

Rahul Chahar was the one, who changed the course of the game. He picked up four wickets and helped MI back into the game. He gave away only 27 runs and churned out as many as 11 dot deliveries in critical stages.

Jasprit Bumrah- 8/10

Jasprit Bumrah didn’t get a wicket, but he was accurate as ever. In four overs, the fast bowler gave away only 28 runs. He also bowled stupendously in the penultimate over and was hard to get away.

Trent Boult- 9/10

Trent Boult started by conceding a four off his very first ball. But later, he ended with an economy rate of 6.75. In the last over, the left-arm speedster also got rid of Russell and Cummins, drilling the final nails in KKR’s coffin.
