Andre Russell, the hulk-like Jamaican cricketer, is all set to ply his trade in the 2021 edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL), representing the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR). Back in 2019, Russell was the Most Valuable Player (MVP) as he delivered with both bat and ball, though his team couldn’t make the playoffs.
In the IPL 2020, Dre Russ had to sit out because of injuries and was out of form as well. In the meantime, prior to KKR’s opening match against David Warner’s Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai, Russell has come up with a new hairstyle.
The all-rounder has coloured his hair blonde. When he last coloured his hair, he smacked a 19-ball 49 against the Sunrisers itself at the iconic Eden Gardens in Kolkata. The Knight Riders shared his picture on their official Twitter handle.

Andre Russell form will be critical: Aakash Chopra
Earlier, Aakash Chopra, the former Indian cricketer, said that the Knight Riders’ fortunes will depend a lot on how Russell and Dinesh Karthik play. Chopra also suggested KKR to get Russell’s backup and the team roped in Australia’s Ben Cutting in the auction back in February.
“Dinesh Karthik and Andre Russell’s form will be critical to their success. Their batting at No.5 and No.6 has to be super-hit for this team to do well. They need a backup for Russell, a player who can do two things, ” Chopra was quoted as saying in a video.
Previously, during a chat with Ravi Ashwin last year, Karthik, KKR’s former captain, termed the 32-year-old Russell ‘an MMA fighter’ because of the latter’s appearance.
“How do you bowl to him? His miss-hit is a six with 8m clearance, decent hit 15m and a whack is out of the ground. As a captain how can an opposition bowler bowl to him?” Ashwin asked.
“First pray to God. Give him an offering. Pray that he’s in a bad mood. Then the day, the wicket, the conditions (matter). Just watching him walk in is scary. He comes in like a wrestler. What a build-up he gives while doing that. He’s a brilliant character. With his muscles and all, he looks like an MMA fighter,” Karthik said.
