Sunrisers Hyderabad, on Wednesday, October 6, managed to secure their third win in the 2021 edition of the Indian Premier League. The Kane Williamson-led team defeated the Royal Challengers Bangalore by four runs at the Sheikh Zayed Stadium in Abu Dhabi. As far as RCB are concerned, they need a miracle to get into the to two, although they have already made their way to the playoffs.

Jason Roy shines for SRH

After electing to field first, the Challengers did an excellent job as they restricted SRH to 141 for seven in 20 overs. The Sunrisers sent Abhishek Sharma to open the batting with Jason Roy and the move didn’t quite work out. Sharma hit a four and a six before George Garton got rid of him. From there on, Kane Williamson and Roy stitched together a handy partnership of 70 runs off 9.4 overs.

Harshal Patel separated the duo after he castled Kane, who scored 31 off 29 with four fours. Priyam Garg smashed a six downtown before Dan Christian removed him. Christian also struck the body blow after he got rid of Roy, who was batting on 44 off 38 with five fours. Chahal trapped Abdul Samad to add to the wickets’ column. Jason Holder scored 16 to propel SRH’s score at the death.

SRH storm to victory

The Challengers didn’t get off to a great start as Bhuvneshwar Kumar caught Virat Kohli in front. Siddarth Kaul removed Christian to put more pressure on the RCB batting. KS Bharat got into double figures before he became Umran Malik’s maiden IPL victim. Thereafter, opening batter Devdutt Padikkal and Glenn Maxwell steadied the ship and put on a partnership of 54 runs off 7.2 overs.

SRH skipper Williamson broke the stand, running out Maxwell, who scored a 25-ball 40, at the striker’s end. Maxwell smacked three fours and two sixes, and looked ominous. Padikkal strained for his 52-ball 41 after which he perished to Rashid Khan’s guile. With RCB needing 13 runs off the last over, AB de Villiers hit a six downtown off Bhuvneshwar, but couldn’t take his team over the line/
