The 6th match of the Indian Premier League got underway between Royal Challengers Bangalore and Sunrisers Hyderabad. RCB won the roller coaster event by six runs. David Warner won the toss and invited Virat Kohli and his men to show up with willow first. Virat Kohli made sure to give a fine start to his team by adding vital 33 runs from his end.

However, Glenn Maxwell starred once again for RCB today as he smashed 59 off 41 and was ultimately awarded the player of the match award. No major contribution came in from the lower middle order of RCB and therefore, they could put up 149 runs on the board. Jason Holder picked three wickets for SRH while Rashid Khan conceded only 18 runs while clinching two wickets.

Shahbaz Ahmed brought RCB back in the game

While chasing the target, skipper David Warner appeared in brilliant form as he took no time to bring up his half-century (54 off 37). Manish Pandey supported the skipper from his knock of 38 runs. The lower middle order failed for SRH and hence they couldn’t cross the line at the end. Shahbaz Ahmed picked three wickets for his team during the crucial hours and turned the course of the game.

Losing skipper, David Warner said-

Our bowlers were fantastic to restrict them. Maxwell batted well and set the platform. We needed two set batsmen at the end, but we failed to do that. We needed to build a partnership and play proper cricket shots. We played cross batted shots, and that’s not the way to play here. That hurts. We know how to approach in the upcoming games. We have another three games here and I think the wickets are going to get better. We need minimum damage in the first six overs and play simple cricket. The team batting second (at Chepauk) should have won all the four games. This is exactly what happened last night.

Winning skipper, Virat Kohli said-

Not as exhausted as I am proud (of the team). You are never really out of the game in these conditions. The extra bowling options made those impact performances in the middle overs. I told the guys don’t think that we struggled to get to 149. If it was tough for us, it will be tough for them as well. Our execution under pressure was spot on. It kept getting tougher and tougher with the old ball. I think Maxi’s innings was the difference for us. To be very honest, we are not over excited with wins this season. We have plans. We traded Harshal from Delhi, gave him a specific role and he’s doing a great job.

Player of the match, Glenn Maxwell said-

It’sa very nice start, new franchise for me and they have given me a specific role. It’s nice to have batters behind you, you have freedom and that’s almost close to the role I have in the Australian cricket team. It’s just about using the experience. Get myself in and then go for the runs. Probably having those guys behind me is a luxury at RCB. I suppose the coaching effect is there to an extent as well. Obviously my 4th IPL team and there’s a bit of pressure.
