It was another nail-biting affair as Rajasthan Royals locked horns against Delhi Capitals in the seventh match of the 14th edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL). However, for a change, the low-scoring match was played at the flat pitch of the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai and not the slow and sluggish surface of Chennai.

Despite the collapse of the batting line-up and initial hiccups, RR made a stunning comeback towards the end of the second innings to win the match by three wickets. The battle between the two young captains, DC’s Rishabh Pant and RR’s Sanju Samson commenced with the latter winning the toss and electing to bowl first.

Put to bat, DC got off to a torrid start as Jaydev Unadkat ran through the team’s top-order to pick the wickets of Prithvi Shaw, Shikhar Dhawan, and Ajinkya Rahane. Rishabh Pant played a captain’s knock as held his fort at one end and kept ticking the scoreboard. Pant’s spectacular innings of 51 run off 32 deliveries including nine boundaries came to an end owing to a run-out.

However, apart from Pant, no batsman could touch the figure of even 25 runs and as a result, DC posted a below-average total of 147 runs. For Rajasthan, Unadkat was the pick of the bowler with three wickets while Mustafizur Rahman also had two under the belt.

David Miller shines with the bat

Chasing 148, the Royals didn’t have any answers to the questions posted by DC bowler in the first half of the second innings. The first four batsmen including the likes of Manan Vohra, Jos Buttler, Sanju Samson, and Shivam Dube lost their wickets while batting at a score of 9, 2, 4, and 2 respectively.

However, David Miller, who was included in the team as a replacement of an injured Ben Stokes, played a match-winning knock of 62 runs off 43 balls. Miller’s knock gave a revival to Rajasthan’s otherwise dead innings. Though he lost his wicket in the 16th over, Chris Morris applied the finishing touches by playing a match-defining cameo of 36 runs off 18 balls. In the death overs, Morris slammed bowlers like Kagiso Rabada and Tom Curran to take RR home by three wickets.
