The 7th match of the Indian Premier League 2021 got underway between Delhi Capitals and Rajasthan Royals. RR won the game by three wickets owing to their power-hitting at the end. The Sanju Samson-led side won the toss and invited the Capitals to show up with willow first. DC didn’t get off to a very good start owing to some failed show at the top order. However, it was their skipper yet again who marched up his team by adding 51 runs.

Some handful runs by debutant Lalit Yadav and Tom Curran meant that they could touch the total of 147 runs. RR’s experienced man Jaydev Unadkat flaunted class with the ball for them once again as he picked three wickets while conceding just 15 runs in four overs and was eventually declared as the player of the match.

Chasing in the low-scoring game, RR appeared even dim as their batting order fell like a pack of cards. However, whatever followed next by David Miller and Chris Morris was no less than a dreamy affair. Miller smashed 62 off 43 balls while Morris exploded with an 18-ball 36 to push RR over the line. Avesh Khan picked three wickets for DC

The bowlers did a good job at the start, but we let them get over us in the end. We could have bowled a bit better. It’s part and parcel of the game and dew played a big role in the end. We were 15-20 runs short. But at least there is something to gain from this match, the bowlers did a great job at the start. Hopefully if something like this happens we can pull it off. In the second innings, there was much more dew, so the slower ball wasn’t stopping. So we had to something in the second innings.

Had some hopes with Miller and Morris to come but to be really honest I thought that it was tough from there and I think the boys did really well to get over the line. It’s about reading the conditions. Was a bit sticky to start with. Hard lengths and mixing up with the variations was the key. That’s also our strength – three left-armers. They are slightly different from the other so we can use it in a different way. We had a chat with him, he was very confident and very clear (Sakariya). Can’t do much, was just praying inside. Always sit back and review my game. If I play that match again 100 times I would not take the single (on denying strike to Morris last time).

Player of the match, Jaydev Unadkat said

Have a lot of experience now I can say of handling tough situations. Was kind of a homecoming for me. Was bowling with the kind of freedom I wanted with the new ball. Couldn’t do that last season. Had to step up this time. Didn’t get the first game so I knew the chances when they come, I have to take them. If you see the stats I think I only bowled about four-five change of pace. It was about hitting the hard lengths, hitting good lengths because it was doing a bit. Feel there was a bit of moisture. Made good use of it. Changes you as a person in whole (marriage). Feel more settled, more calmer. Nothing like coming to the ground hugging your wife and then sitting beside guys believing in you.
