Former England captain Michael Vaughan has opined Chennai Super Kings should look to build their team around star all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja once MS Dhoni is ready to hang up his boots. Vaughan’s comments come after Jadeja turned a match around with the ball for CSK against Rajasthan Royals at the Wankhede Stadium on Monday.

The run-chase was going at a steady rate with Jos Buttler building a partnership with Shivam Dube. But, Jadeja in the 12th over got a beauty of a delivery to dismiss Buttler. In the same over, he got rid of Dube and put Chennai in the box seat. After this, the run-chase collapsed. Jadeja further went on to take four catches in the match as well, some of which were on the boundary.

According to Vaughan, Dhoni might not play after two or three years. The CSK skipper is expected to retire after the end of the IPL 2021, but the franchise CEO had reportedly revealed that Dhoni could continue in the leadership role for the next season as well. Vaughan said Jadeja’s mindset as a cricketer can allow the franchise to build around him. He said that his game in all three facets is quite good.

Vaughan impressed with Jadeja’s mentality on the field

“You may say that Dhoni will play for 2-3 more years but let’s be honest, he’s not gonna play a great deal after that. So you’ve got to start looking at who you can build a team around and to me, Ravindra Jadeja is the kind of cricketer that I would build my team around. I just think he’s that good with the ball, in the field, with the bat in hand, his mindset, his mentality is very good,” said Vaughan during a Cricbuzz show.

The former England cricketer also said that Ravindra Jadeja is such a good cricketer that he can take on the responsibility of almost everything in the game. “Jadeja for me is the kind of player to whom you can say ‘You’re gonna bat at No.4 or 5, get in there early. We might even open the bowling with you, depending on who is batting. We’ll put you in key fielding positions.’ He is ready for that. I think he is that good a cricketer,” Vaughan said.

The Englishman also noted that there are talks that Chennai could look to build their generation team around Sam Curran. Vaughan praised the youngster from Surrey but also expressed that he is still young and may not be ready for the challenge yet. He said he can take the challenge maybe four or five years from now.
