MS Dhoni is known for his street smartness. Throughout his illustrious career, the legendary wicketkeeper-batsman has come up with several out-of-the-box ideas that have shocked the cricket world. One of the most successful wicketkeepers in the history of the game, Dhoni has shown his class from behind the stumps on a regular basis.

And such an instance was seen again on Saturday (April 10) when Chennai Super Kings were playing against Delhi Capitals in the second game of the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) 2021. The CSK skipper made a cheeky attempt to stump Shikhar Dhawan out off Moeen Ali’s waist-high ball that flew well above the batsman’s head.

Dhoni knew it well that his stumping would not count but he still went ahead and decided to take a chance as CSK struggled to take a wicket. The incident happened on the first ball of the 13th over. The ball slipped out of the England off-spinner’s hands and flew well over Dhawan’s head behind the stumps to Dhoni.

And while Dhawan was stunned by the loopy delivery, Dhoni was quick to show his presence of mind as he quickly took the bails off in order to stump the DC opener out. Dhoni also looked at the square-leg umpire but the umpire was quick to adjudge the delivery as a no-ball. Stumped dismissals are disallowed off no-ball deliveries.

Here is a clip of the incident:

DC crush CSK

Talking about the game, DC thrashed CSK by seven wickets to start their campaign on a stunning note. Asked to bat first, CSK scored 188 for 7 in the stipulated 20 overs. CSK were off to a disastrous start as Ruturaj Gaikwad and Faf du Plessis departed with just seven runs on the board. But useful contributions from Moeen Ali (36), Suresh Raina (54), and Sam Curran (34) helped them cross the 180-run mark.

The score, however, was not enough for CSK to win the game. DC openers Shikhar Dhawan and Prithvi Shaw came out all guns blazing and scored stunning fifties to guide their team to the big win. Dhawan scored 85 while Shaw scored 72 as the openers added 138 runs for the first wicket to all but seal the game for their team.
