IPL 2021: Rajasthan Royals donate Rs 7.5 crore to help people impacted with COVID-19

India is currently witnessing a huge surge in COVID-19 cases as the second wave of the virus has wrecked havoc. The country is reporting more than 3 lakh cases per day over the last few days and many are criticising BCCI for going ahead with the Indian Premier League (IPL) in the country. Having said that, cricketers Pat Cummins, Brett Lee, Shreevats Gosami and Sheldon Jackson have come forward to donate and help the affected people.

Meanwhile, Rajasthan Royals has become the first franchise to donate for the generous cause. The franchise released an official statement revealing that they have donated a whopping amount of Rs 7.5 crore (over $1 million) towards COVID relief. It has also been cleared that the funds have been raised by the players along with team owners and the team management.

RR have been working with its philanthropic arm Rajasthan Royals Foundation in partnership with British Asian Trust (BAT). “BAT works closely with the Indian Government on many initiatives – especially in the area of skills and education. The Trust’s founder, Prince Charles, launched an emergency ‘Oxygen for India’ appeal, which is currently focused on acquisition and distribution of oxygen concentrators, devices that can provide the enriched gas straight from the air, to treat patients when hospital supplies are under strain,” the statement read.

The franchise, in its statement, also added that the funds raised for the cause will also help pan India with the initial focus on Rajasthan.

Meanwhile, the Rajasthan Royals are currently facing the five-time champions Mumbai Indians in their sixth match of the season. They have come into this game after beating the Kolkata Knight Riders in the previous game and are currently at the seventh position in the points table. However, a win over MI will propel them to the fourth place.

After losing the toss, they are batting first at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi. The team hasn’t made any changes to the XI that won the last encounter.
