The 14th edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL) is just more than a fortnight away. The training camps of almost all the teams have begun for a few players while the others are either on their way to reach India or are serving a mandatory quarantine period before joining the team. The situation is the same for the Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) as the franchise is awaiting its top players to join in the first week of April.

But one of their overseas players Adam Zampa is most likely to miss at least the opening game of IPL 2021. The leg-spinner is set to get married and might join the team late given the mandatory seven-day quarantine period for the players coming from out of the bubble.

Director of Cricket Operations of RCB Mike Hesson confirmed the news while not clarifying the exact availability of Adam Zampa. Rather he claimed that RCB’s all 8 overseas players are available for them ahead of their opening game against Mumbai Indians on April 9. However, going by his other statement, it became clear that Zampa will not play at least the first game.

“Adam Zampa is getting married. That’s an important time for him. Something as a franchise we are aware of, we respect and hope he has a great time. So when he joins us, once again he will be fresh and makes a decent contribution for the rest of the tournament,” he said in a video posted on RCB’s official Twitter handle.

Adam Zampa was one of the several Australian cricketers to postpone their marriage last year due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Though the virus is not completely, the situation has improved a bit worldwide now with vaccines also available.

RCB keen on making a big push in IPL 2021

RCB, under Virat Kohli’s leadership, performed extremely well only to lose their way at the fag end of the tournament. They qualified for the playoffs but were knocked out in the eliminator itself. This time around, they will be hopeful of going all the way having secured the services of some of the top players in Glenn Maxwell and Kyle Jamieson.
