Shah Rukh Khan, the co-owner of the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR), wasn’t a happy man after his team’s performance against Mumbai Indians (MI) in the fifth match of the 2021 Indian Premier League (IPL). On Tuesday, April 13, Eoin Morgan and Co lost to the Mumbai Indians (MI) by 10 runs at the MA Chidambaram Stadium, also known as the Chepauk.

It also happened to be KKR’s 12th defeat to the Mumbai-based franchise in their last 13 meetings. At one point in time, the Knights, while chasing 153, were cruising. However, the Men in Gold and Purple lost their way somehow and couldn’t recover. The Knights managed to snatch defeat from the jaws of victory after getting themselves in a commanding position.

Shah Rukh Khan expresses his anguish

Shah Rukh didn’t seem pleased with KKR’s performance in Chennai. The veteran Bollywood actor took to Twitter and wrote, “Disappointing performance, to say the least. @KKRiders apologies to all the fans.”

Morgan, the KKR skipper, was left befuddled as well after the defeat. The left-hander, who scored seven runs before getting out to Rahul Chahar, rued the missed chance and iterated the importance of being ‘bold’ to close off matches.

Eoin Morgan not pleased as well

Yes, disappointing (to lose). Played some really good cricket for most parts of the game, we looked comfortable in the chase, but they are a strong team, came back well and sad that it didn’t work out for us,” Morgan was quoted as saying in the post-match presentation ceremony.

“We made a few mistakes, will need to sort it out. A perfect game needs to be bold, it came to cost us in the last 10 overs of the game. We put ourselves in a good position to win today, but then not to win, that’s something we need to take care of,” he added.

In the run-chase, Nitish Rana and Shubman Gill’s 72-run stand off 53 balls set the platform for the Knight Riders. But then Chahar came to the party and picked up four wickets to break the backbone of KKR’s batting. In fact, after Gill and Rana, no other KKR batter couldn’t get into double figures.
