The 14th edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL) is in full flow at the moment with the fifth match of the season between Mumbai Indians and Kolkata Knight Riders in progress. After losing the toss, the defending champions got off to a slow start but their in-form batsman Suryakumar Yadav helped them revive the innings after a slow start.

MI’s number three batsman came to bat in the third over of the innings after Quinton de Kock got out to Varun Chakravarthy and soon took the attack to his former teammate Harbhajan Singh. The third over of the innings saw Surya smashing three fours to the off-spinner and there was a hint of what was to come.

He made sure that the pressure didn’t get to his skipper Rohit Sharma who was batting at the other end. Runs didn’t flow as expected but Surya was hitting an odd boundary every now and then. And Suryakumar Yadav unfurled a majestic shot in the 10th over of the match which also allowed him to get to his half-century.

Surya leaves commentators and fans stunned

Pat Cummins was steaming in having bowled a brilliant over until then. He ran in the same way for the fifth ball as well to deliver a length ball at stumps. Suryakumar Yadav, just shuffled a little bit, probably anticipating the length, and just nonchalantly flicked it over the deep square boundary for a huge 99 metre six which literally went out of the Chepauk.

Hardik Pandya was also stunned along with the commentators and the fans as the all-rounder stood up in awe to appreciate his teammate. However, Surya couldn’t score more runs as he was dismissed in the very next over by Shakib Al Hasan for 56 off 35 deliveries.

Nevertheless, it was an entertaining knock that was laced with seven fours and two sixes. He also stitched a partnership of 76 runs with his skipper Rohit and ended up scoring 56 alone. MI will have to thank Surya if they manage to win the game as it was his knock that gave them the momentum after KKR spinners had tied up their openers.
