El-Clasico of the Indian Premier League (IPL), Mumbai Indians (MI) vs Chennai Super Kings (CSK), faced in match 27 of the tournament. Some of the top cricketers in the shortest format of the game faced in it and no wonder all the fans had their eyes set on it. After being put in to bat first, the Men in Yellow lost Ruturaj Gaikwad early but Faf du Plessis and Moeen Ali batted well.
The duo stitched a century partnership taking the attack to the opposition bowlers. Both of them scored half-centuries as well. However, they got out in quick succession with Jasprit Bumrah and Kieron Pollard striking for MI. This is when the fans expected Suresh Raina to step up and help the team post more than a decent total on a flat pitch.
However, the southpaw couldn’t hang around and got out the very next ball after Du Plessis’ dismissal to Pollard. It wasn’t a great shot from Raina as he tried to clear the mid-wicket boundary and instead found Krunal Pandya who took an easy catch. With a wicket falling only off the previous delivery, it would’ve been better for him to take a single and then analyse the situation later.
But he ended up throwing his wicket away after mustering only two runs off four deliveries. Moreover, his wicket meant CSK lost three wickets in a matter of less than two overs leaving all the hard work done by the other two batsmen in vain.
Suresh Raina not in best of forms in IPL 2021
After missing the IPL 2020, Suresh Raina was expected to light up this season with his batting. He started well to smashing a half-century in the first game against the Delhi Capitals. However, the left-hander has gone quiet since then. Moreover, he isn’t batting at three this time with Moeen Ali taking his position and at number four, the left-hander is struggling it seems.
Suresh Raina has so far scored 123 runs in six innings at an average of just over 24 and the record isn’t great for a player of his calibre. Fans weren’t happy at all with him playing a poor shot when CSK needed Raina to stay in the middle and they lashed out at him.
Here’s our Twitter reacted:
#SureshRaina has been a liability for #CSK since 2018, I wonder why no one can't see that he's finished..plays in the most reckless and irresponsible way..no responsibility at all…should retired himself and help #CSK #MIvsCSK

It's very sad to say This, csk might retain deepak chahar in place of suresh Raina.
But csk will go for him in the auction, will try to pick him— BAT&BALL CHANNEL (@jOhnw00kie) May 1, 2021
@ChennaiIPL suresh raina should focus on their batting style..

The reason why Suresh Raina gradually vanished from International Cricket still persists. The way he plays today, one can see in his approach its totally irresponsible batting and no improvement till date. @ImRaina
