The 14th edition of the IPL has been over a week old now, and in the little time that has passed, the league has witnessed some exhilarating action already. Being played for the first time in a caravan format, the teams stand devoid of any home advantage with each game being held at neutral venues.

In what is seeming to become a growing trend at one of the venues, Chepauk, the Sunrisers Hyderabad faltered during a chase once again to slip to their third loss of the season. Chasing a par total of 150 against Mumbai Indians on Saturday, SRH underwent a collapse after having gotten themselves a sturdy start.

The regular fall of wickets broke their back and they eventually fell 13 runs short of the target with both Jasprit Bumrah and Trent Boult wreaking havoc in the death overs after Rahul Chahar spun a web in the middle-phase. This was not the only instance of Hyderabad messing up a simple chase, as they went down against the Royal Challengers Bangalore a few days ago at the same venue while chasing nearly a similar target (149).

96/2 with David Warner and Manish Pandey taking the team steadily ahead, it seemed that SRH would be able to cruise towards victory. Only for a spirited comeback by RCB that restricted them six short rather dramatically. The disease of collapse at Chennai has not been exclusive for SRH as the Kolkata Knight Riders failed to chase 31 from 30 deliveries against Mumbai Indians in a chase of 153 and lost the game by 10 runs.

Virender Sehwag’s hilariously apt reference leaves everyone in splits

With as many collapses unfolding at the same venue, Virender Sehwag came up with an amusing reference in an Instagram post, where a couple of persons can be seen battered, bruised, and perplexed. Referring to them as the teams “trying to chase in Chennai”, Sehwag shared a moment of truth indeed.

David Warner, the Hyderabad skipper, sounded quite bemused too, after losing another game in a similar style. “I don’t know how to take that. Obviously disappointing. Two of us [David Warner and Jonny Bairstow] were set but it proves that if you don’t bat deep, you can’t win. If you get a partnership and if there is one person at the end, you can chase it down. These scores are very chase-able, it’s just poor batting, he said post-match.
