It’s only a few days more until IPL franchises lock horns in the upcoming mega auction on the 12th and 13th of February 2022. All the franchises will be looking forward to adding quality players to their side who will help them lift the trophy. The upcoming 15th edition of the Indian Premier League has seen the already existing franchises retain a few players while the new teams- Lucknow and Ahemdabad have confirmed their picks from the first draft.
With 590 players all set to go under the hammer this time, with the highest base price category being that of 2 Crore – set by 48 players around the world, the teams will be looking forward to building a strong team. However, the teams will surely keep an eye on players whose base price might be a bit high but haven’t performed well recently.
3 players from India who might go unsold in the mega auction
1. Murali Vijay
Murali Vijay, at his peak, was one of the most elegant hitters of the cricket ball. He has played 106 matches in the tournament and has scored 2619 runs at a strike rate of 121.87 with two centuries and 13 fifties to his name. He even had decent outings in the 2014 and 2015 seasons, scoring 453 runs in 14 games with five fifties.
However, Vijay’s fortunes have dipped significantly since. He played only one game in 2018, two in 2019, and three in 2020. He has looked totally out of sorts in recent years. He did not feature in the 2021 edition and it looks highly unlikely that the 37-year-old will now be able to add anything to his IPL tally.
2. Kedar Jadhav- Base Price INR 1 Crore
Kedar Jadhav was once considered to be the solution to India’s batting issues in the middle order. However, post the 2019 World Cup, he could not live up to his name and eventually fell out of the reckoning for the national side. Jadhav has played for 5 franchises in the IPL.
His 2017 campaign with the Royal Challengers Bangalore franchise has been his best to date, where he had scored 267 runs in 13 matches, at a strike rate of 143.54. However, in the next four years, he played 29 matches and scored only 303 runs at a disappointing strike rate of 101.15 for a middle-order finisher.
3. Ishant Sharma- Base price INR 2 Crore
Ishant Sharma has played for over six franchises in his 13-years in the IPL. He is placed 38th for the most wickets in the league as he HAS scalped 73 wickets at an economy of 8.09 with his best figures being 5/12.
Sharma has been a part of the Delhi Capitals since 2018. However, WITH his injury concerns along with his base price and inconsistency to feature in the national side, it’ll be interesting to see if sides bid for the 33-year-old.
