Mitchell Marsh T20 career has been in two halves and both the halves are very contrasting. Earlier the Junior Marsh used to bat at number seven or eight and used to play as a bowling all-rounder. But now things have changed. Now, Mitchell bats at number three for Australia and has tasted a huge amount of success playing there.

He was one of Australia’s stand-out stars in their campaign at the 2021 ICC T20 World Cup. He scored 215 runs in the tournament at an outstanding average of 43 and at a strike rate of nearly 139. He played a prominent role in helping Australia win their first T20 title. He is yet to prove his caliber at the Indian Premier League.

He has played 21 IPL games and has scored 225 runs and has 20 dismissals to his name. He is a star of the Big Bash League. He is going to be in demand during the mega auction as he has form on his side and is having a dream time in his career. With the IPL auction around the corner, there will be a few sides that will eye to give Marsh a contract. Most of the teams will be behind him but we will talk about three IPL teams who are expected to target him during the mega auction.

3 Teams that can eye Mitchell Marsh in mega auction

1. Mumbai Indians

Mumbai Indians have picked Rohit Sharma, Jasprit Bumrah, Kieron Pollard, and Surya Kumar Yadav as their retained players ahead of the IPL 2022 mega auction. The main weapon of Mumbai has been their lower middle-order. The Pandya brothers and Kieron Pollard were their main reasons for being so successful.

They have retained Kieron Pollard but unfortunately, they somehow had to release the Pandya brothers. In this auction, they will eye on picking a reliable all-rounder who can match the standards of an IPL star like Hardik Pandya and Mitchell Marsh fits perfectly in this position. The addition of Michell Marsh to the mighty MI franchise can be very valuable for them.

Not only can he be dependable with a few overs with the ball, but he can also provide stability to the Mumbai Indians’ middle-order. The five-time champions are known for the best hospitality that they provide to their players and they try to build a core. Mitchell Marsh can be an integral member of that core and the pitch of Mumbai Indians will suit him a lot.

2. Punjab Kings

Punjab Kings have the biggest purse before going to the auction and they will eye to build a completely new setup. They will try to have some stand-out T20 match-winners who have already proved their worth in the 20-over format. Marsh is a star when it comes to the shortest format. He has been a vital cog for the Perth Scorchers in the Big Bash League.

Marsh has previously played for Pune Warriors India, Rising Pune Supergiants, and SunRisers Hyderbad in the league. He needs a long run in any of the coming IPL seasons to prove his worth. The Punjab Kings can be a franchise that can show faith in the Australian all-rounder. Punjab Kings need a reliable number three batting option.

Mitchell’s elder brother was a crucial member of the Punjab Kings set up in the initial years of the league. Shaun Marsh was the first batter in IPL who won the orange cap and he was playing for Punjab Kings. So the Punjab Kings management can try to rope the all-rounder to their side during the auction and it will be interesting to see if they will be successful in doing that.

3. Rajasthan Royals

Rajasthan Royals were the winners of the inaugural edition of the Indian Premier League in 2008. But after that first season, the performances of the Royals have been very ordinary. The franchise went through many ups and downs through the years. They were banned from the league for two years for reportedly being involved in the spot-fixing scandal.

They have had fabulous players in their squad for the last few years. They had Ben Stokes in their squad from 2018 who is the best all-rounder in world cricket currently. But, Ben Stokes has decided to opt-out of the 2022 edition of the league. The Royals will have to find a replacement for Ben Stokes and the best player who fits that position is Mitchell Marsh.

Marsh is an experienced cricketer as he has been around for a while. Rajasthan needs a player like Marsh who can provide solidity in all three dimensions of cricket. Marsh is a complete package, he can bat, he can bowl, and he is a very good fielder too. Rajasthan Royals are expected to target the Australian cricketer in the IPL 2022 mega auction.
