Chennai Super Kings and Sunrisers Hyderabad will be facing each other in the 17th match of IPL 2022, to be played at the Dr. DY Patil Sports Academy in Mumbai. CSK were the champions last season, while SRH had the extreme opposite result, finishing at the bottom in the points table. However, both the teams are in the same boat this season at the moment, as they are searching for their first win. Chennai will be playing their first match at this venue this year, while SRH lost against LSG by 12 runs at this ground.
CSK have lost two of their games batting first and the other one while chasing. SRH, on the other hand, have lost both their games while chasing. Both teams have an net run rate under -1, which suggests that their batting and bowling both have not been good.
The Orange Cap winner of the last season, Ruturaj Gaikwad has three single-digit scores so far, while Ambati Rayudu has also been unable to play any useful knock. MS Dhoni, who seemed to have got his mojo back in the first two games, played a disappointing knock of 23(28) against PBKS. Shivam Dube, now a specialist batter, has played two impressive and significant knocks in last two matches. Being the side with the worst bowling average, their bowling unit needs to answer many questions.
After a huge defeat to RR in the first match, Sunrisers Hyderabad followed it with a much better show against LSG, only to lose again. The absence of David Warner was clearly evident as SRH looked a different side, with the openers Abhishek Sharma and Kane Williamson falling early in both the games.
An improved middle-order with useful knocks from Rahul Tripathi, Aiden Markram, Nicholas Pooran and Washington Sundar has been the only positive for SRH this season. Bhuvneshwar Kumar has been controlling runs, and T Natarajan could pick wickets, but the other SRH bowlers haven’t contributed much. New skipper Ravindra Jadeja would like to win the first match for CSK against another winless side SRH.
