The five-time champions Mumbai Indians (MI) will take on a strong looking Delhi Capitals (DC) in the second match of 2022 Indian Premier League (IPL) on March 27 (Sunday). The match will be played at Brabourne Stadium, Mumbai and it will be an afternoon encounter. Led by skipper Rohit Sharma, Mumbai Indians are set to begin their hunt for sixth title, but they will have their task cut out against DC, captained by Indian wicketkeeper-batter Rishabh Pant.
The five-time IPL champions, despite losing the services of the Pandya brothers and ace pacer Trent Boult, managed to retain their core squad members including Rohit, Ishan Kishan, Kieron Pollard, Jasprit Bumrah and Suryakumar Yadav. However, Mumbai will be without the services of their prominent batter Suryakumar Yadav for the opening fixture. As a result, young batter Tilak Varma can make his debut for MI.
The Capitals, on the other hand, will also be without their star performers in last season including Shikhar Dhawan, Marcus Stoinis and Kagiso Rabada. The team management and Pant will also have a lot to think about as their two overseas stars Mitchell Marsh and David Warner will not be available for their opening encounter as they are busy with their national sides. But with the likes of Pant, Axar Patel and Shardul Thakur in the squad, the Capitals will fancy a win in what promises to be an epic encounter in Mumbai.
Both MI and DC have faced each other in 30 matches in the history of IPL. The five-time champions hold the edge over Capitals by winning 16 encounters, while DC has won 14 of them. However, the Capitals had won both the encounters played between them in last year’s IPL. It remains to be seen how the two heavyweights will go on in this season.
Here is a look at how the weather will behave during MI vs DC clash:
It’s good news for the cricket fans, the weather will be perfect and the rain will not play the spoilsport. As per accuweather.com, the temperature in Mumbai will be about 34° Celsius during the day.
