Rahul Tripathi played an outstanding innings of 71 runs off just 37 deliveries with four fours and six maximums to haunt his former franchise as Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) beat Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) comfortably by seven wickets in Match 25 of IPL 2022 at the Brabourne Stadium in Mumbai. Aiden Markram also struck a whirlwind half-century while pacers T Natarajan and Umran Malik also stole the show in SRH’s hat-trick of wins.

Talking about how the match went by, SRH skipper Kane Williamson won the toss and elected to field first. The Orange Army replaced the injured Washington Sundar with Jagadeesha Suchith. KKR made three changes as Aaron Finch came in for Ajinkya Rahane, Sheldon Jackson for Sam Billings, and Aman Khan for Rasikh Salam. Venkatesh Iyer’s poor form stretched as he made just six runs while the Australian Finch managed just seven runs for his new ninth franchise.

Captain Shreyas Iyer amassed 28 runs off 25 deliveries but it was Nitish Rana who started scoring the runs quickly. He mustered 54 runs off 36 balls with Andre Russell then playing a blitz innings of unbeaten 49 runs from 25 deliveries which included four fours and as many sixes. The Caribbean power-hitter took KKR to a total of 175/8 in their allotted 20 overs. T Natarajan took 3/37 and Umran Malik 2/27 in their respective four-over spell.

Chasing 176 to win, openers Abhishek Sharma and captain Williamson couldn’t do much as they scored three and 17 runs respectively. Former KKR player Rahul Tripathi was at his elegant best as the uncapped Indian registered the joint-second fastest fifty of this campaign in 21 balls. The Protea, Aiden Markram remained not out on 68 runs off 36 balls which included six fours and four maximums. With this victory, the Orange Army has now won three successive matches after losing the first two in IPL 2022. For his blistering knock, Rahul Tripathi won the Player-of-the Match award.
