IPL 2022, Match 3: 10 best memes from RCB vs PBKS match

The third match of the Indian Premier League 2022 saw the Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) lock horns with the Punjab Kings (PBKS). Mayank Agarwal, the new PBKS captain, won the toss and elected to bowl first, putting Faf du Plessis’ men in to bat.

Starting with the bat, RCB openers Faf and Anuj Rawat started off well for their team. With Faf taking a foot back, it was Rawat who showed his class in his very first game. He hit two fours and a six before being dismissed by Rahul Chahar on 21(20). Post his dismissal, Faf and Virat joined hands to put on a terrific show.

Du Plessis played a captain’s knock by scoring a half-century and bringing up a 118-run partnership with Kohli for the second wicket. The two thrashed the PBKS bowlers as they hit four fours and nine sixes combined in the entire game. When Arshdeep Singh managed to dismiss Faf, 88(57), at the beginning of the 18^th over, the PBKS bowlers didn’t know what was ahead of them.

Dinesh Karthik joined Virat on the crease for the third wicket, and the two added 34 runs off the last two overs of the game to take their team’s score to 205/2 after 20 overs. Karthik and Kohli remained unbeaten at 32*(14) and 41*(29), respectively.

PBKS hitters turned the face of the game towards the end

Chasing 206, PBKS openers created destruction on the field as Mayank Agarwal and Shikhar Dhawan not just put up a 50-run stand between themselves, but also added 64 runs in six overs of the powerplay. When Faf introduced spin to the game in the sixth over, it seemed to work for the team but Karthik missed out on a well-attempted catch of Dhawan.

It was Wanindu Hasaranga who got the first breakthrough for his team and broke the opening pair as he dismissed Agarwal. Agarwal was replaced by Bhanuka Rajapaksa, who had walked in to face his fellow Lankan teammate.

Even after Dhawan’s wicket after a 29-ball 43, PBKS continued to thrash the RCB bowlers. Rajapaksa was at his best in the game with the bat. Though he lost his wicket to Mohammad Siraj, a wicket that RCB was desperately looking for at that moment, he scored a quick 22-ball 43 for his team.

On the very next delivery after dismissing Rajapaksa, Siraj dismissed the Indian U19 star and IPL debutant Raj Bawa for a golden duck. The PBKS innings slowed down after the dismissal of Dhawan and Rajapaksa. Wickets kept falling for PBKS as they lost their fifth in the form of Liam Livingstone.

A couple of drops gave PBKS some hope, and they took full advantage of the extra life. The face of the game changed in the final four overs when Shahrukh Khan and Odean Smith anchored the innings for PBKS as the two thrashed the RCB bowlers and hit them for multiple boundaries. They made 206 look an easy target and won the game by five wickets for PBKS with six balls to spare in a thrilling and entertaining game.
