The five-time champions Mumbai Indians (MI) will take on the new entrants Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) in their next encounter of IPL 2022, to be played at the iconic Wankhede Stadium, Mumbai on April 24 (Sunday). MI have lost seven matches on the trot and are desperate to open their account in the league.

It may be noted that the Men in Blue and Gold have lost all seven matches so far, with losses against Delhi Capitals (DC), Rajasthan Royals (RR), Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR), Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB), Punjab Kings (PBKS), Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) and defending champions Chennai Super Kings (CSK).

The Super Giants have already beaten the five-time champions once in IPL 2022. LSG skipper KL Rahul was at his extreme best as he scored an excellent century. As a result, MI was handed an 18-run defeat against the new team in the tournament. MI had to face a close defeat at the hands of the defending champions CSK in their last match and will want to stick with the same side in their upcoming match.

Here’s a look at the Mumbai Indians’ predicted XI against LSG

Openers: Rohit Sharma (c) and Ishan Kishan (wk)

Skipper Rohit Sharma and wicketkeeper-batter Ishan Kishan had an unforgettable match against CSK as both the batters went back to the pavilion without troubling the scorers. Barring a good partnership against Delhi Capitals (DC), both Indian batters have failed to get going in the tournament.

Skipper Rohit has scored 114 runs in seven innings so far. His highest score of 41 came against the Capitals. Similarly, Ishan Kishan has scored a total of 191 runs in the tournament so far. The wicketkeeper-batter smashed 81 off 48 balls against DC but has not been able to maintain his form.

Middle-order: Dewald Brevis, Suryakumar Yadav, Tilak Varma

Young South African batter Dewald Brevis failed to get going in the previous encounter as he managed to score just four runs in seven balls. However, he has scored 121 runs in the tournament so far and has also scored them at a quick pace. The right-handed batter was shown some blitz of his talent, but he is yet to score some big runs and would want to do that in the coming match.

Indian batter Suryakumar Yadav and Tilak Varma have been the most consistent performers for their franchise. While Suryakumar Yadav has scored 232 runs in just five innings, Tilak has also garnered 234 runs in seven innings. The young batter also scored a half-century against the defending champions and will want to continue his good form.

All-rounders: Kieron Pollard, Daniel Sams, Hrithik Shokeen

West Indies big unit Kieron Pollard has been inconsistent with his performances in IPL 2022 so far.  Pollard has not been able to provide a good finish for his team and has contributed only 96 runs in seven matches. The right-handed batter recently took retirement from the international arena and will want to play more freely for his IPL franchise.

Australian all-rounder Daniel Sams returned to MI playing XI during the last match and he impressed after scalping four wickets in his four-over quota. Similarly, Hrithik Shokeen also impressed with the ball, giving away only 23 runs in his four-over quota in his debut match. The 22-year-old also scored 25 runs. Both of the all-rounders are expected to retain their places in the playing XI.

Bowlers: Riley Meredith, Jaydev Unadkat and Jasprit Bumrah

The Men in Blue and Gold bowling unit has struggled to scalp wickets in IPL 2022 so far. One of their senior pacers, Jasprit Bumrah has managed to take only four wickets in seven appearances. Even though Bumrah has been very economical with the ball, his wicket-taking abilities are being missed by the five-time champions.

Left-arm pacer Jaydev Unadkat was bowling well till his third over in the previous match. However, veteran MS Dhoni scored 17 runs off his final one and won the match for his side. Australian pacer Riley Meredith was excellent with the ball as he took the vital wicket of CSK skipper Ravindra Jadeja and gave away only 25 runs in his four-over quota in the last match.

MI’s predicted playing XI for the LSG match:

Rohit Sharma (c), Ishan Kishan (wk), Dewald Brevis, Suryakumar Yadav, Tilak Varma, Kieron Pollard, Daniel Sams, Hrithik Shokeen, Riley Meredith, Jaydev Unadkat, Jasprit Bumrah.
