The Punjab Kings squared off against the Chennai Super Kings in the 38th game of the IPL 2022 at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai. Punjab came into the game with a couple of losses from the previous games, whereas Chennai had one loss and a win respectively in their past two games. Ambati Rayudu’s vital knock of 78(39) went in vain as PBKS defeated CSK by 11 runs.

Punjab’s innings got off to a sluggish start as Agarwal and Shikhar Dhawan were cautious in their approach. Mayank was up for a slow start and chipped the ball up as Shivam Dube caught it to send him back. Rajapaksa and Shikhar worked in sync to put together a magnificent 110-run combination in a short amount of time. The pitch aided spinners, but because both the batters on the field were left-handers, Jadeja restricted himself and Mitchell Santner from the attack.

Liam Livingstone was elevated up the order and put ahead of Bairstow when Rajapaksa’s wicket fell. His cameo 7-ball 19 gave PBKS a much-needed boost as they ended up with a total of 187 runs. Shikhar remained unbeaten on 88*(59) and played beautiful innings, surpassing many milestones. He became the first player to score 1000 runs against CSK and crossed the 9000 T20 runs landmark.

Arshdeep Singh’s magnificent spell restricts CSK batters from chasing

Speaking of CSK’s chase, Punjab had the upper hand in the powerplay as they conceded very few runs and scalped two wickets in the form of Robin Uthappa and Santner, and even after the powerplay, PBKS bowlers kept the CSK batters in check as the asking rate kept increasing. Rayudu held the key to CSK’s victory and played a gem of a knock keeping CSK’s hopes alive before Kagiso Rabada nailed a yorker to end his innings.

Arshdeep was brilliant in his spell and gave away minimum runs in death overs to fulfill his duties with perfection. In the last over, CSK needed 27 runs in order to win the game. After MS Dhoni hit Rishi Dhawan for a six to start the final over, Rishi kept his calm in the game and dished out the finisher to end CSK’s hopes of winning the game. The Kings of Punjab came out on top in the battle between the Kings as they defeated CSK by 11 runs.
