Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) finally got back to winning ways after losing five successive matches as the two-time champions defeated one of the in-form teams in the tournament, Rajasthan Royals (RR), by seven wickets in Match 47 of IPL 2022 at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai. Umesh Yadav was the pick of the bowler yet again for KKR as he conceded just 24 runs for one wicket in his four-overs spell. In the run-chase, Nitish Rana and Rinku Singh both guided their team to a victory with their respective unbeaten 40s.

Speaking about how the match went by, Shreyas Iyer won the toss and KKR opted to field first. Sanju Samson’s woes at the toss continued as he lost his ninth toss in ten games. The Knight Riders made two changes with Anukul Roy and Shivam Mavi replacing Venkatesh Iyer and Harshit Rana respectively. RR made one change with Kiwi Daryl Mitchell making way for Karun Nair.

The man in golden form, Jos Buttler made 22 off 25 deliveries while Devdutt Padikkal’s poor run extended as he managed to score just two runs. Skipper Samson led his side from the front as he smashed a half-century. He amassed 54 off 49 balls with seven fours and a six with Shimron Hetmyer again doing the damage in the death-overs. The West Indian remained unbeaten on 27 runs off 13 balls with one four and two maximums to take RR’s total to 152/5 in 20 overs.

Chasing 153 to seal a victory, KKR began their innings with another new opening pair of Baba Indrajith and Aaron Finch. The latter was bowled by Kuldeep Sen for just four runs while wicketkeeper batter Indrajith made 15 runs. Captain Shreyas played an useful innings of 34 runs but it was Rana and Rinku who sealed the deal.
