Rajasthan Royals beat Sunrisers Hyderabad by 61 runs in the fifth match of IPL 2022 in Pune. The team finishing seventh last season made a complete mockery of the team finishing eighth. Right from a quick opening stand between Jos Buttler and Yashasvi Jaiswal, Rajasthan Royals had a leading edge over the opposition throughout the game.
After SRH managed to get a breakthrough with the wickets of both the openers, skipper Sanju Samson continued his unbelievable form against SRH with a 25-ball half-century. He had the perfect support from Devdutt Padikkal at the other end. From there, a Shimron Hetmyer cameo of 32 in 13 balls took the Royals to a total of 210 which proved to be more than enough.
Chasing a huge target, a Warner-less SRH top-order was reduced to 9/3 straightaway. Despite a huge target given, the SRH scoring wasn’t quick, as they recorded the joint lowest powerplay total in IPL history. SRH were on track to break the record for the highest margin of defeat in IPL, but thankfully Aiden Markram and Washington Sundar played some crucial knocks to save SRH’s net run rate after the destruction was already done.
Washington Sundar’s scintillating knock of 40 in 14 balls, with five fours and two sixes, provided some entertainment to SRH fans on a highly disappointing day.
