Gujarat Titan’s show in the run-chases finally ended as they lost by five runs against Mumbai Indians (MI) in Match 51 of IPL 2022 at the Brabourne Stadium in Mumbai. With nine runs needed off the last over, Daniel Sams, who had gone for plenty against Pat Cummins earlier in the tournament, conceded just three runs to seal the deal for MI. Tim David was the star with the bat as he scored an unbeaten 44 runs off just 21 deliveries with two fours and four maximums to take his side to a total of 177/6 in 20 overs.
Earlier, Hardik Pandya won the toss as an unchanged GT team opted to field first. Ishan Kishan and skipper Rohit Sharma gave their side a solid start as both added 74 runs for the opening wicket. The former made 45 runs off 29 deliveries with five fours and a six while captain Rohit amassed 43 runs off 28 balls with five fours and two sixes. Rohit has now gone 18 innings without a fifty to his name in the league.
Suryakumar Yadav made 13 runs while Kieron Pollard’s disastrous season continued as the Caribbean power-hitter struggled during his innings of four runs off 14 deliveries. David then reminded everyone of his hitting abilities as he guided MI to a big total.
Chasing 178, Wriddhiman Saha and Shubman Gill scripted the highest opening partnership for GT this season as the pair added 106 runs. Both reached their half-centuries and then got dismissed to Murugan Ashwin in the same over. Captain Hardik mustered 24 runs off 14 balls while Sai Sudharsan couldn’t do much as he managed to score only 14 and got out hit wicket.
David Miller remained not out on 19 runs with Daniel Sams bowling superbly well in the last over to seal just the second victory for his side this season. With 16 points, GT remains top of the table whereas are at the tenth position with four points. For his sparkling knock of 44*, David won the Player of the Match award.

149 – Wriddhiman Saha has scored 149 runs in six innings at a staggering average of 149.00 in the powerplay this season.
100 – David Miller appeared in his 100th IPL match.
20 – Lockie Ferguson has conceded 20 sixes in IPL 2022, which is the most by any pacer and second-most behind Wanindu Hasaranga’s tally of 23.
14.33 – Kieron Pollard has scored 129 runs in ten innings at an average of just 14.33 this season.
42 – Rohit Sharma scored 42 runs in the powerplay, which is the most he has amassed in an IPL match. He mustered 32 runs against Punjab Kings in 2019.
106 – Shubman Gill and Wriddhiman Saha recorded the highest opening partnership for GT. The previous highest was 69 between the same pair against Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH).
