The 52nd contest of the IPL 2022 witnessed the Punjab Kings locking horns with the Rajasthan Royals. The former was in a good form and was backed with a victory from the previous game. On the other hand, RR had lost their previous two encounters and was looking for redemption. Sanju Samson’s strategies worked out perfectly as RR defeated PBKS by six wickets to get back to the winning track.

In the turn of events, Shikhar Dhawan was not at his best today, but Jonny Bairstow gained his mojo while opening for the side. Dhawan (12 off 16) had to walk back in the powerplay, but Bhanuka Rajapaksa joined Bairstow in the party and hit some fearless shots. His cameo of an 18-ball 27 helped the team to add some good runs in the first 10 overs. Skipper Mayank Agarwal, who dropped himself to the middle order also played a couple of stylish shots but could not go long in the game.

Yuzvendra Chahal managed to pick both Bairstow (56 off 40) and Agarwal (15 off 13) in the same over, giving his team the much-needed breakthrough but PBKS batters kept their heads high in the game as the all-rounders covered for what was lost. They carried the momentum in the game as Jitesh Sharma (38* off 18) and Liam Livingstone (22 off 14) added the crucial runs towards the end, taking their team’s total to 189/5.

RR bounce back strong to defeat PBKS by six wickets

Coming into the chase, RR openers Jos Buttler and Yashasvi Jaiswal gave a great start to the team. Buttler (30 off 16) smashed four boundaries off the fourth over by Kagiso Rabada but the PBKS pacer had the last laugh when he showed the opener his way back to the pavilion on the final delivery of that over. Jaiswal, who was coming back into the side after a brief break, managed to pull the game over.

Jaiswal had a remarkable comeback as he walked off scoring 68 runs off 41 deliveries, and after Buttler’s dismissal, skipper Samson played a quick cameo of 23(12). Devdutt Paddikal and Shimron Hetmyer steadied the ship towards the end, and while Padikkal (31 off 32) proved he can be a class batter playing at any position in the lineup, Hetymer (31 off 16) helped the team with the finishing touches as RR beat PBKS by six wickets.
