Mitchell Marsh’s all-round show proved too much for Rajasthan Royals (RR) as they lost by eight wickets in Match 58 of IPL 2022 at the DY Patil Stadium in Navi Mumbai. The Australian all-rounder took 2/25 in three overs and then tore apart the RR bowlers with his magnificent innings of 89 runs off just 62 deliveries, which included five fours and seven monstrous sixes. David Warner also scored an unbeaten half-century, his fifth of the season, to clinch the sixth victory for the Capitals.

Speaking about how the match went by, Rishabh Pant won the toss and elected to field. DC bowlers heaved a sigh of relief when the man in form Jos Buttler got dismissed for just seven runs. Half-centurion from the last match, Yashasvi Jaiswal made 19 while R Ashwin, who came in to bat at No. 3, registered his maiden IPL fifty.

Devdutt Padikkal got back into some form with his innings of 48 off 30, which included six fours and two maximums. Skipper Sanju Samson and Riyan Parag mustered just six and nine runs respectively with RR reaching a total of 160/6 in 20 overs. Sakariya and Anrich Nortje snared two scalps each as well to restrict the Capitals below 165.

Chasing 161, Srikar Bharat failed yet again as he got dismissed for a two-ball duck off the bowling of Trent Boult. Marsh survived a plumb LBW dismissal against the Kiwi Boult as RR didn’t review it. The Aussie then rode his luck to control the DC’s innings well along with his countryman Warner.

Both shared a 144-run partnership for the second wicket to take the match away from the Royals. With this win, Pant’s Capitals have moved to the fifth spot with 12 points while Samson’s Royals remain at the third spot with 14 points. For his all-round performance, Mitchell Marsh won the Player of the Match award.
