Cricket fans must mark their calendars as the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022 mega auction is set to take place on February 12 and 13 in Bangalore. A total of 590 players are set to go under the hammer and all 10 franchises would be busy brainstorming. It must be noted that IPL 2022 will be a grand affair with two new teams coming into the picture – Ahmedabad, and Lucknow.
Hence, for the very first time since 2011, IPL will be a 10-team event. With a mega auction being in schedule, the eight existing sides were asked to retain a maximum of four players. While some teams used all their cards to retain their core, others saved money for the bidding events. Meanwhile, the two new teams picked three players apiece from the list of non-retained players.

Hence, all teams will step into the auction with a different purse amount and it would be interesting to see how the finalize squads would look like. Meanwhile, among the 590 players who are set to go under the hammer, 228 are capped players, 355 are uncapped players and 7 belong to Associate Nations. As far as the breakdown is concerned, 330 Indian and 220 overseas players will take part in the bidding event.
The highest base price for players is INR 2 crore and a total of 48 players have put themselves under that category. While bids of 20 cricketers will start at INR 1.5 crore, 34 players have a reserve price of INR 1crore. Players from as total of 14 nations will land in the auction pool and it would be interesting to see what the team owners view them.
For the unversed, all 10 teams were allotted a purse of INR 90 crore. However, as mentioned above, they have been left with different amounts after naming the retentions. Now, the franchise owners need to come up with a précised strategy to fill the remaining slots with the available amount.
