The penultimate match of the IPL 2022 saw the Rajasthan Royals square off against the Royal Challengers Bangalore in the Qualifier 2 at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. It was the clash of the Royals as both teams were eyeing a win in the do-or-die match in order to qualify for the finals, but Rajasthan ended RCB’s dream run, defeating them by seven wickets and qualifying for the Grand Finale.

RCB lost Virat Kohli (7 off 8) early again as Prasidh Krishna scalped him to give RR the early breakthrough. Rajat Patidar walked in for RCB’s rescue yet again but took a long time to build his innings. Faf du Plessis (25 off 27) and Patidar (58 off 42) stitched up a 70-run stand before the former fell prey to Obed McCoy. Glenn Maxwell aimed to go long but ended up playing a cameo of a 13-ball 24 runs and that is when RCB faced a terrible collapse.

RCB slipped from 111/3 in the 14th over to 157/8 at the end of the innings as RR bowlers worked their magic. Krishna and McCoy finished their spell with three wickets each and Ravi Ashwin and Trent Boult picked up one wicket apiece. Restricting RCB to a low total, RR leaped forward in the race by taking the upper hand.

Buttler shines once again as RR book their IPL finale ticket

RR had a brilliant start to their innings when the openers walked out to chase. Yashasvi Jaiswal, who could not perform in the previous game, returned back to form and smashed Mohammed Siraj for 16 runs in the very first over. It did not take long for Jos Buttler to fire, as he took on Siraj when the pacer returned for his second over and hit big runs. The Englishman was unstoppable, as he continued his power-hitting prowess and smacked Shahbaz Ahmed later.

RR lost Jaiswal (21 off 13) in the powerplay, but their total of 67/1 in the first six overs had already got the team on the winning pathway. Buttler and Sanju Samson (23 off 21) added 52 runs for the second wicket, making their side the favorites of the clash. Even after Samson’s dismissal, Buttler kept going and notched up his fourth ton of the season and played a match-winning knock of 106*(60).

RR lost Padikkal (9 off 12) in the death overs, but they only needed some handful of runs to win the game. RCB’s dream of winning their maiden title got broken as Rajasthan Royals took the flight to the finals in the hopes of breaking their long curse of an IPL championship.
