The sixth match of the Indian Premier League 2022 is set to get staged between Royal Challengers Bangalore and Kolkata Knight Riders at Dr. DY Patil Sports Academy, Mumbai. Both the teams would be taking the field having contrasting fortunes in their previous fixture. While KKR got the better of former champions Chennai Super Kings in their campaign opener, RCB were pushed down by Mayank Agarwal and his men in a high-scoring affair.
It was interesting to see Ajinkya Rahane and Umesh Yadav standing up to the occasion for KKR as they have been through some hard times in their careers of late. However, Shreyas Iyer, the showman of KKR will be highly expected to shine with the bat this time against Faf Du Plessis and company. The all-round department looks sorted for KKR with the likes of Caribbean greats Sunil Narine and Andre Russell.
Talking of the Challengers, their hunt for the maiden title still continues in this season, and getting off to a losing start in 2022 has definitely not helped their cause. However, the good thing for RCB was some explosive hitting from their big names like the skipper himself followed by Virat Kohli and Dinesh Karthik. Working a bit on the bowling department can boost their chances big time in the upcoming clash.
Pitch and conditions
The boundaries are long enough at Dr. DY Patil Sports Academy and hence don’t support batters to settle in for huge scores (mostly). However, the last game here saw over 200 runs being chased. Therefore, chasing looks the way forward here and a green top can surely be conducive for pacers on the day. The temperature is expected to remain around 39 degrees C and precipitation is unlikely on the match day.
Playing combination for RCB vs KKR
Royal Challengers Bangalore
Though the new skipper was on a roll in the last game, his team couldn’t get over the line and this time around, a complete team effort might fetch a victory for them. Bowlers of the side would be expected to perform a little better than their last outing against PBKS.
Playing XI: Faf du Plessis (c), Anuj Rawat, Virat Kohli, Dinesh Karthik(wk), Sherfane Rutherford, Shahbaz Ahmed, Wanindu Hasaranga, David Willey, Harshal Patel, Akash Deep, Mohammed Siraj
Kolkata Knight Riders
Ajinkya Rahane appeared in top form for the Riders in their last game and so was the case with Umesh Yadav, both being the traditionally less preferred players in the given format. Iyer and his men would want to maintain the same tempo and bag another crucial win in their 2022 journey.
Playing XI: Venkatesh Iyer, Ajinkya Rahane, Shreyas Iyer(c), Nitish Rana, Sam Billings, Andre Russell, Sunil Narine, Sheldon Jackson(wk), Umesh Yadav, Shivam Mavi, Varun Chakravarthy
