In a comedy of errors, Saurashtra and Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) wicketkeeper-batter Sheldon Jackson was called a foreign player by a panel member (veteran journalist) having a discussion for one of the prominent media houses. Since then, the wicketkeeper-batter has been trending on social media.

The 35-year-old-batter was picked by the two-time champions KKR at a cost of INR 60 lakh during the 2022 Indian Premier League (IPL) mega auction. The wicketkeeper-batter has been around the team since 2017 when he got a chance to play in only four matches and scored 38 runs.

Several media houses are now holding panel discussions on the IPL squads strategy ahead of the biggest cricketing league in the world. However, a video has emerged on social media platforms where one of the panel members in a discussion stated Sheldon Jackson as a viable foreign option.

As soon as the video was widely shared on social media platforms, the panel admitted the mistake and asked the viewers to watch the full video.

“Nowhere during this clip or during the entire show did I ever mention #SheldonJackson as a foreign player. My bad I didn’t realize when he got called an overseas entrant. Pls go through the entire show because I am very well aware of Sheldon’s achievements for Indian cricket,” wrote the journalist on Twitter.

Jackson was born on September 27, 1986, in Bhavnagar, Gujarat. The right-handed-batter made his first-class debut for the Railways before moving to Saurashtra. In first-class cricket, he has amassed 5947 runs at an average of 50.39 in 79 matches. The 35-year-old has stroked 19 centuries and 31 fifties. In List A cricket, Jackson has scored 2346 runs in 67 matches with eight centuries and 12 fifties. He has also scored 1511 runs in 62 T20 matches.

Meanwhile, KKR will take on defending champions Chennai Super Kings in the tournament opener to be played on March 26 (Saturday). The fans are eagerly waiting for the epic clash between last year’s winners and the other finalists.
