Gujarat Titans (GT) and Rajasthan Royals (RR) managed to win their respective matches in today’s doubleheader of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022. While GT managed to pip down the defending champions, some disciplined bowling from RR bowlers ensured that they get two crucial points after defeating LSG.
In the afternoon match, CSK skipper MS Dhoni won the toss and opted to have a bat first. With the help of opener Ruturaj Gaikwad (53 off 49 balls), Moeen Ali (21 off 17 balls), and N Jagadeesan (39* off 33 balls) ensured that the Yellow Army finished on 133 in their 20 overs.
GT bowlers were spot on right from the word go and gave nothing to the defending champions’ batter. Senior pacer Mohammed Shami was the pick of the bowlers as he scalped two crucial wickets. Apart from Shami, Rashid (one wicket), Alzarri Joseph (one wicket) and Sai Kishore (one wicket) were the successful bowlers for the table toppers.
Chasing 134 in their 20 overs, opener Wriddhiman Saha (67* off 57 balls) set the base for the chase and other batters chipped in as well. As a result, the defending champions had to suffer a defeat by a margin of seven wickets. Saha was adjudged player of the match for his excellent batting performance.
Rajasthan Royals manage to beat the Supergiants from Lucknow
In the second match, RR skipper Sanju Samson won the toss and opted to bat first. Some crucial knocks from Yashasvi Jaiswal, Samson, Padikkal, and Riyan Parag ensured that the Royals post a competitive total of 178 runs on the board. For LSG, Ravi Bishnoi (two wickets), Avesh Khan (one wicket), Jason Holder (one wicket), and Ayush Badoni (one wicket) were successful bowlers.
Chasing 179 to win, LSG had the worst possible start, as the Kiwi pacer Trent Boult wreaked havoc with the new ball. He also found some decent support from Prasidh Krishna, Yuzvendra Chahal, and Obed McCoy. As a result, RR managed to win the contest quite comfortably in the end.
As mentioned above, GT is placed comfortably right at the top of the points table. Meanwhile, RR after winning their match has reached second in the points table. LSG and Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) complete the top four teams in the points table of IPL 2022.
