Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) came on top against Mumbai Indians (MI) during a group stage match of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022 played at the Maharashtra Cricket Association Stadium, Pune. The five-time champions never looked comfortable during the course of the match, as the Red Army successfully grabbed the two points for the taking.

RCB skipper Faf du Plessis, after winning the toss, invited Mumbai to bat first. Openers Ishan Kishan and skipper Rohit Sharma played very cautiously in the first half of the field restrictions. However, as soon as they got their eyes in, both Sharma and Kishan started to hit boundaries.

The duo stitched a valuable partnership of 50 runs. However, MI skipper was scalped by pacer Harshal Patel, right after the powerplay. Kishan was then joined by youngster Dewald Brevis, but they both could only manage to add ten runs before a collapse followed.

MI were looking down and out at 79/6. However, batting heroics from Suryakumar Yadav (68 off 37 balls) ensured that they finished with a respectable total of 151/6. For RCB, Harshal Patel and Wanindu Hasaranga scalped two wickets each, while pacer Akash Deep got one wicket.

Chasing 152, RCB cruised to victory against MI

Chasing a target of 152, RCB cruised to victory after hefty contributions from opener Anuj Rawat and Virat Kohli. MI managed to grab the wickets of skipper Faf du Plessis (16 off 24 balls), Rawat (66 off 47 balls) and Kohli (48 off 36 balls). However, that was the only success MI tasted during the course of the second innings, as RCB went on to win the contest by seven wickets.

With the win over MI, RCB have climbed to the third spot in the points table. KKR, who have won three out of four matches, are on top of the table, while GT and LSG complete the top four positions.
