The Sunrisers Hyderabad picked up their first win of IPL 9 courtesy of an impressive 7-wicket win over the mighty Mumbai Indians. As for the Indians, they have slumped to their third loss in four matches, a feat that finds them in the wrong end of the table. David Warner finally stepped up to the plate as he singled handedly propelled the Sunrisers to a magnificent win. As for the likes of Ambati Rayudu and Krunal Pandya, the knocks despite being worthy, were in vain.

1. Barinder Sran wrecks top order:

Impressive performances in the domestic circuit saw Barinder Sran enter the fray for selection into the Indian national side. As has been the case for many left-arm pacers in the past, Barinder joined the MS Dhoni led Indian side in a 5-match ODI series down under before once again disappearing into the oblivion that he came from. Now, Barinder is back and this time around in the SRH jersey. And in the absence of Ashish Nehra, Sran had an added responsibility, something he performed to perfection. He removed Parthiv Patel, Jos Buttler and towards the end managed to get Ambati Rayudu at a crucial juncture.

2. Ambati Rayudu stabilizes innings:

Ambati Rayudu has been the lone warrior for the Mumbai Indians in the past few matches. While wickets have fallen in terrible regularity around him, Rayudu has always had to salvage the runt of the litter to save the Mumbai Innings. He was sent in at 3 today and he initially played the long innings tapping the ball around the park, attempting to put the odd ball away to the fence. Rayudu slammed a valiant 54 before being dismissed in the 18th over. It was his partnership with Krunal Pandya that took MI to 142 from a point where even 100 looked difficult.

3. Krunal Pandya continues fine form:

Krunal Pandya announced himself in the previous match where he struck a whirlwind 20 and conceded just 20 runs in his 4 overs. This time, the elder Pandya brother played a key knock with the bat. The southpaw showed the first signs of aggression in the innings as he dispatched the SRH bowlers to all parts. Initially in his innings, Pandya played second fiddle to Rayudu as the latter unleashed a flurry of big shots against the SRH left-arm spinner. He remained unbeaten on 49, scored from just 28 deliveries including 3 boundaries and 3 sixes.

4. Dhawan’s horror show continues:

Shikhar Dhawan burst onto the scene with the fastest Test century. He lifted many trophies with the Indian side and has played some wonderful knocks. However, at the moment, Dhawan is in an unbelievably bad slump, something he has been in for the most part of the calendar year. His poor run continued in this game as well; he was cleaned up by a peach of a delivery from Tim Southee. Should the Sunrisers Hyderabad have any ambitions of winning the title, they will certainly require Shikhar Dhawan to fire on all cylinders.

5. David Warner all the way:

David Warner has accounted for almost 30% of the runs scored by SRH this season. The skipper only went on to increase that percentage with a blistering 90 off just 59 deliveries. With his opening partner Shikhar Dhawan losing his wicket early in the inning, Warner slashed and crashed his way en route to his match-winning knock. He stayed till the very end as the Sunrisers finally got on the points board in this edition of the Indian Premier League.
