India and Sunrisers Hyderabad opener Shikhar Dhawan’s dry run at the crease doesn’t seem to end as he once again got out for a single digit score. He walked in to bat tonight with minimal pressure of the scoring rate since the total they were chasing was 143 and with David Warner at the other end, all he needed to do was take his time and settle down. Dhawan isn’t one of the most assured batsmen if the technique is considered and relies more on his hand-eye coordination and loves to play the shots. This time round he was up against Tim Southee, who was swinging the ball inside him and bowling the Yorker length.
The first ball that he faced was an inswinging yorker and he tried to dig it out but it hit his boot and he was down on all fours. That must have been playing on his mind and Southee produced another beauty, in form of another inswinging yorker. It was aimed perfectly at his toes and was deflected off his front boot onto the stumps. It hit straight at the root, and Dhawan’s middle stump was out and so was he. The ball swung in late and there was nothing the southpaw could do about it; one of those balls you never want to face.
He could just score 2 tonight, his scores in the last five innings in the IPL read- 8 (7) against RCB, 1 (2) against MI, 8 (9) vs RCB, 6 (7) in the match against KKR and 2 (4) vs MI tonight. After being cleaned up on the field, Dhawan was also taken to the cleaners on Twitter, here are the Twitter reactions:
