Mumbai Indians finally managed to secure a win at their new home venue after they toppled the DD side by 80 runs. Batting first, Mumbai rocketed to a formidable 206/4 in 20 overs. Krunal Pandya (86 from 37 balls) was in lethal mood and clobbered the DD bowlers beyond imagination in a stunning display of hard-hitting. In reply, the DD could not after any competition and were cleaned up by the MI bowling attack led by Jasprit Bumrah (3/10).

Zaheer Kahn’s decision to bowl first on a track which he deemed to be slow looked like bad one as Rohit Sharma and Martin Guptill gave a healthy start to the innings with a 46-run opening wicket stand. But, DD immediately found success with the ball after the end of the powerplay as MI skipper Sharma had to walk away after getting dismissed by leggie Amit Mishra.

The skipper’s departure brought mayhem on the DD side. Krunal Pandya joined Guptill in the middle and the duo launched a brutal onslaught. Pandya went on a rampage, slamming 86 runs from just 37 balls, laced with 7 four and 6 towering sixes. He along with Guptill stitched a 98-run stand in just 8.2 overs. The Kiwi looked like a mere ordinary batsman in front of Pandya’s extraordinary power-hitting. The partnership was eventually brought an end in the 15th overs.

However, Pandya continued his aggression striking brutal blows. MI seemed to be heading towards a massive total. But, fortunately for DD, Chris Morris floored Krunal’s middle stumps to provide a big relief. Jos Buttler (18 from 9 balls) and Ambati Rayudu (13 from 5 balls) played short cameos to help the Mumbai total bulge to a formidable 206/4 after 20 overs.

In reply, the DD were completely rolled over by the MI bowling attack. The start wasn’t great as Mayank Agarwal, who looked good initially, lost his wicket in the 2nd over to Vinay Kumar. Quinton de Kock and Karun Nair then gave some hopes with their fluent stroke making. The Mumbai spinners then came to the party. Harbhajan Singh, who opened the 2nd innings, picked his first wicket after he snapped Nair in the 5th over. The pitch offered good turn and this prompted Rohit to use the left-arm spin of Krunal Pandya.

Wickets then started to fall at regular intervals. Samson was run out after playing a sluggish 11-ball 8 runs innings. Pandya then picked the crucial wicket of de Kock to give a major blow to the chasing effort of the visiting side. Rishab Pant and Chris Morris played brief knocks but they were of no use eventually. Bumrah then got into the clean-up works and snapped Pant, Duminy, and Mishra to completely floor the Daredevils. Morris getting run out in the 17th over put a full stop to the match. The DD side eventually were all out for 126.

Brief Scores:

Mumbai Indians: 206/4 in 20 overs

Delhi Daredevils: 126 all out in 19.1 overs
