The wait is finally over. The much-anticipated auction for IPL 2021 is just a few hours away. The auction will take place on Thursday (February 18) in Chennai. The franchises will have 291 players to choose from in the forthcoming IPL Auction. Initially, there were 292 players but England fast bowler Mark Wood has decided to withdraw from the auction in order to spend time with his family.

A total of 164 Indian players, 124 overseas players, and 3 players from Associate nations will be up for grabs. Initially, a total of 1,144 players had registered themselves for the auction before the list was pruned by the BCCI after the franchises submitted their shortlist of players. Out of the 291 players, a maximum of only 61 players will get the IPL contracts.

The auction will be the last opportunity for all the teams to bolster their squads ahead of the tournament. Several teams are eyeing a complete overhaul of their squads after failing to win the IPL last year. Royal Challengers Bangalore are one such side who have as many as 11 vacancies in their squad. Sunrisers Hyderabad, on the other hand, have the least number of vacancies (3) in their squad.
